   Deposit Protection Scheme

Threshold asks you to support our campaign for a Deposit Protection Scheme

We want to change how deposits are paid so that tenants will no longer pay deposits to their landlord but to a State-run Deposit Protection Scheme.

Similar reforms have been implemented in Australia, New Zealand and the UK and this has greatly reduced the number of times tenants unfairly lose their deposits. Tenants in Ireland are placed in danger of homelessness when a landlord unfairly withholds their deposit.

The Minister for Housing, Michael Finneran TD, is considering reforms to this area and we need tenants to tell their elected representatives about how they have been affected by unfair deposit retention. We have drafted a template letter which you can adapt and send to your local TD or Senator.
