Housing Services and Supports
In additional to our housing advice and advocacy services, Threshold also offers the following housing support services.
Tenancy Protection Service
This service is aimed at individuals, couples and families living in private rented accommodation who are experiencing housing problems and are at risk of homelessness for example being give a notice of termination or facing a rent increase.
Many people living in private rented accommodation get help with their rent through rent supplement administered by The Department of Employment Affairs and Social Protection (DEASP) click here for more information on rent supplement. Whilst rents are capped at maximum limits taking into account the location and circumstances of the household, DEASP can provide additional assistance above theses limits on a case by case basis. If you are in receipt of rent supplement and having difficulties contact your local DEASP office immediately.
Threshold also works with the DEASP, and can apply for an enhanced rent supplement payment on your behalf if you are in receipt of rent supplement and facing a rent increase. This applies to the following areas:
- Dublin, Kildare, Meath, Wicklow,
- Cork City and its environs Ballincollig, Cobh, Kinsale, Glenmire
- Galway City.

Access Housing Unit, Cork
The Access Housing Unit in Cork provides advice to and proactively works with individuals and families whose tenancies are at risk to maintain these tenancies and prevent people from becoming homeless. We work to empower and assist people 'out of home' to access accommodation in the private rented sector through pre and post tenancy support. The Access Housing Unit also works to facilitate a partnership approach to service delivery to ensure a wraparound service is provided for all service users.
